Whilst every effort will be made to maintain the services published the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway does not guarantee that the trains will depart or arrive at the times stated and reserves the right to cancel, alter or suspend any train without notice and accepts no liability for any loss, inconvenience or delay thereby caused. Tickets issued do not guarantee seats on a specific train or steam haulage.

Disabled Access

All our station platforms and buildings are accessible for disabled and limited mobility visitors.


There is also a disabled access carriage which is used on some trains. We would strongly recommend that wheelchair users contact us in advance to ensure that this rake of carriages is in use on the date of their planned visit.

First Aid

Please contact a member of staff. There are first aid boxes on every train and at every station.

Toilet & Baby

There are currently two toilets, both with disabled access at Lakeside Station with baby changing facilities.


Parking is available at all of our stations.

Cleethorpes Kingsway Station: Adjacent to council pay and display car park (Satnav: DN35 0AG) with spaces for 143 cars

Lakeside Station: Adjacent to two council pay and display car parks, the Boating Lake Car Park with spaces for 87 cars and Meridian Road Car Park (Satnav: DN35 0AG) with spaces for 49 cars

Humberston Station: Large free car park situated next to the station.

Coach drop off points is also available as part of the above car parks at each station.

Information and Lost Property

The General Office is at Lakeside Station and all staff will be happy to help with any enquiries during your visit. This is also where all lost property is taken.


Smoking is not permitted on our trains, station buildings and platforms during open hours. Designated smoking areas can be found in The Signal Box Inn beer gardens.

How to Find Us

Directions by Car

Cleethorpes is located on the South bank of the Humber estuary to the east of Grimsby and Immingham.

  • From the North: On the A1 at Knottingley go east on the M62, south on the M18 and east on the M180/A180.
  • From the South: On the A1/A1M take the M18 northeast to the M180 then east as above on the M180/A180.
  • From Lincoln: Take the A46 towards Grimsby, watch out for signs to Cleethorpes as you approach Grimsby.

Once in Cleethorpes: Follow the brown and white signs for Meridian Lakeside and then Lakeside. Lakeside Station is approximately three-quarters of a mile to the west of Pleasure Island Family Theme Park. There is a large pay and display car park right next to Lakeside Station.

Kingsway Station is further west along Kings Road next to the Leisure Centre, with a pay and display car park about two minutes walk away. Humberston Station is accessed via Meridian Road which runs directly alongside Lakeside station off Kings Road, follow the road over two level crossings and along to the free car park next to the station. Please note – this car park fills up very quickly and so it might be full when you arrive, alternative car parking is back at Lakeside station.

Directions by Train

Cleethorpes Station is operated by TransPennine Express, who operate a direct service to Manchester Airport via Manchester Piccadilly. Northern Rail also operates from Cleethorpes along the Barton-on-Humber Branch.

During the Summer holiday season, a road train operates from Cleethorpes Pier (2 mins walk from National Rail Station) and connects with CCLR services at Cleethorpes Kingsway Station.

Direction by Bus

Stagecoach buses 9 and 10 travels past CCLR via Kings Road with bus stops situated adjacent to Lakeside Station and Cleethorpes Kingsway Station. Every weekend from Easter-Summer Holiday Season and daily, a 17 open top bus travels along the promenade to Thorpe Park Holiday Parks and Cleethorpes Pier.

Where to stay

The Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway is located in one of the most popular seaside resorts in the country and a day is often not enough.

There are many options of where to stay and whilst we do not directly recommend any of the providers, we hope it will be a useful guide.

Do you have toilets and Baby Changing Facilities?

Yes, there are currently two toilets, both with disabled access at Lakeside Station with baby changing facilities.

My child is 17 years of age and still in full time education, do they qualify for a child ticket?

A child ticket includes anyone between the age of 3 and 16 years old. Anyone above the age of 16 is classed as an adult.

Are dogs allowed on the train?

Dogs are welcome on the train, we charge a flat fare of £1.50 per dog.

I am a wheelchair user, am I able to travel on the train?

We have a disabled access carriage which is used on selected days. We advise that you contact us in advance to ensure it is in use on the day of your visit.

If I buy a return ticket, can I split my journey and return on a later train?

Yes, you can split your journey and use the remainder of your ticket on the same day as purchase. It is best to take a note of departure times from each station. We advise that you arrive at the stations approximately 10 minutes prior to departure time.

Where can I purchase train tickets at Lakeside Station?

Train tickets are available to purchase inside Platform One Café.

Can I do work experience or volunteer at the Railway?

How long does the full line return journey last?

The full line return journey lasts for approximately 35 minutes. You are able to do this journey type twice with your ticket.

Where can we park?

There is a Pay and Display car park located next to Lakeside Station.

Will there be food and drink to purchase on site?

Yes, Platform One Café will be open from 10.00am-5.00pm where guests can purchase a range of hot or cold options. The food is made fresh to order. Please note – due to the high volume of people visiting Platform One Café during the course of the event, you may experience a slight wait time for food. Last orders for hot food will be at 4.30pm.

Can we bring a picnic?

Yes, you can bring a picnic if you wish. There will be picnic benches available outside but any food not purchased from Platform One Café cannot be consumed inside.

Can we go off site for food and come back later?

Yes, you can. Please keep hold of your tickets though as this will permit re-entry. There is a Brewers Fayre across the road from Lakeside Station. Just a few minutes walk down the Boating Lake Car Park there is a choice of a McDonalds, KFC, Subway and Taco Bell.

Do you have a cash machine on site?

Unfortunately, we do not have a cash machine on site and we do not allow cash back on our card machines. The nearest cash machine to the Lakeside Station is the Spar on North Sea Lane or the Spar on Hardy’s Road. Please ensure you bring your card or the sufficient amount of cash with you.

If I pay on the door, can I pay by card?

Paying on the door is strictly cash only.

Can we bring our dog(s)?

Unfortunately, only guide dogs are permitted at this event.

Can we get off at other stations and come back later?

You can get off to have photographs with the engines whilst the guards wait for permission to depart. The stations will otherwise be locked up and the only way in or out the event is through Lakeside Station.

Will there be any merchandise that we can purchase?

Yes, we will have official Day Out With Thomas™ available to purchase from our gift shop. There will also be a wide range of Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends products available.
